Cameron Clayfield gives the performance the thumbs up.

Gowerton continued their acquaintance with Wyedean College from Gloucestershire when they entertained them in a double header on their short tour to South Wales.

………and ‘nails’ him with a great tackle.

Both games were very competitive, but at full time it was the hosts who’d achieved two notable victories over their visitors.

In the year 11 game Gowerton overturned a 17-14 half time deficit by scoring three unanswered second half tries to come out on top 29-17.

Gowerton’s success was based around slickness of handling and pace of their backs with Iwan Jones, Jacob Williams, Cameron Clayfield, Charlie Smith and James Northey all impressing with their elusive footwork and intelligent running angles.

The visitors struck first in the 2nd minute when some sloppy defensive work allowed them to score the opening try.

The hosts replied with two tries in the next ten minutes. The first came when good work by wing Ellis Searle established a platform close to the try line and when the ball was moved wide centre Northey sliced through the defence to cross beneath the posts captain Iwan Jones added the extras to give his side the lead.

Five minutes later, good work by No.8 Lewis Grove secured possession on the ground and when it was moved wide quickly, wing Olly Bruce crossed in the corner, Jones’s excellent touchline conversion stretched the lead.

The visitors enjoyed much the better of the second quarter with their heavier pack holding the advantage in the forward exchanges and the strong running of some of their outside backs allowed them to profit by scoring two tries, one of which was converted and they led 17-14 at the break.

………………. and makes the tackle.

Gowerton took control of the game in the second half with props Mabon Kaniewski and Ethan Truelove both carrying strongly and flanker and man of the match Leon Bevan dominating at the breakdown.

In the 34th minute, the hosts regained their lead with a fine individual try from captain Jones who gathered a misdirected kick 30 metres out, beat two defenders with clever footwork then chipped over the onrushing defence before winning the chase to the line to ground the ball.

Five minutes later, fly half Clayfield crossed in the corner after good work in midfield by full back Tom Barrington and wing Charlie Williams.

Flanker Bevan, aided by the impressive throwing in of hookers Jac Simons and Rhys Jones dominated the lineouts and the final score arrived courtesy of a lineout catch and drive that allowed lively scrum half Jacob Williams to burrow over from short range.
