Gowerton have been drawn in a group with Cwmtawe, Olchfa, Birchgrove and Ystalyfera and their opening fixtures saw them travelling to the Swansea Valley.
The year 11 game was watched by former Welsh internationals and Ospreys’ selectors David Weatherley and Andrew Williams and they both must have been impressed with both the effort and skill level on show.
Gowerton scored seven unanswered tries to run out winners 47-0, but the final score did little justice to the hosts who played with commitment and no little talent. Crucially, the visitors had the advantage in a number of areas and props Tom Northey and Steffan Gibbon, hooker Jordon Liney, lock Rhys Evans, scrum halves Milo Fleming and Callum Lewis, centre Tom Howell and full back Keelan Giles all created problems for Cwmtawe with their power and running skills. It was flankers Will Jones and Jack Cambriani who really excelled. Their handling, defensive qualities and work at the breakdown were of the highest quality and they constantly put their team on the front foot. No.8 Cambriani was awarded the man of the match award.
Gowerton were in front after 3 minutes when good work by Liney and Cambriani freed wing Brandon Gordon who crossed in the corner. Two minutes later Liney powered over for a score of his own after a strong run by Gibbon. In the 20thminute Cambriani crossed himself and then just before half time full back Giles showed both his pace and elusive running skills to score from 50 metres. Centre Howell added all three conversions and at the break Gowerton led 26-0.
In the second half, Gowerton continued on the front foot and the hosts were forced to defend for long spells. The visitors added three further tries from centres Jamie Hurlow and Howell (2). Howell again added all three conversions to finish with an impressive personal haul of 22 points.

Fielding hat trick and Collins brace give year 9 the edge.
In the year 9 fixture, it was Cwmtawe who made the early running and it took an excellent covering tackle from centre Adam Fielding to deny them in the 5thminute, but 3 minutes later centre Josh Morgan crossed for the score the hosts’ early attacks’ deserved.
Gowerton gradually began to get into their stride with the strong running of prop Ethan Guy and No.8 Adam Gammon putting the forwards on the front foot and allowing half backs Sam Cambriani and Dexter Ryde to dictate play. In the 18thminute Gowerton were in front when centre Fielding powered over from 5 yards. Fly half Ryde added the conversion. The visitors extended their lead when centre Sean Collins outpaced the defence to score in the corner, but at half time the lead was cut to two points after centre Martin Murvai crossed for Cwmtawe.
In the early stages of the second half, both teams had opportunities to score, but it was the excellent work of lock Will Jones who impressed in the lineouts and energetic flanker Joe Brightkey that gave the visitors the edge and in the final quarter they added three further tries. The first two from centre Fielding saw him complete his hat trick before co-centre Collins also crossed. Fly half Ryde added two conversions and at the final whistle the visitors had got their campaign off to a winning start with a 31-10 victory.
