Year 8 and 10 v Pontarddulais

Yr 8 and 10 double up at Pontarddulais.

Pontarddulais yr 10 : 0 Gowerton year 10: 17

Gowerton had the advantage of the stiff breeze in the first half, and applied the early pressure with the front row of Jack Harper, Aled Simons and Ethan Guy dominant in the scrums and back row forwards Joe Bright-Key and Will Jones controlling the contact area.

Gowerton made their pressure count when an excellent entry into the line by full back Dexter Ryde allowed him to break the defensive line, a great tackle by his opposite number Cameron Davey denied him the score, but centre Adam Fielding was on hand to gather and open the scoring.

The visitors doubled the lead when centre Sean Collins burst clear from halfway. Again Pontarddulais’s scramble defence was excellent and this time it was centre Tom Morgan who denied Collins.

From the resulting scrum, scrum half Max Treharne, whose service was impressive, attacked the blindside and fed centre Fielding, his deft handling allowed wing Rhys Baker to score in the corner.

In the second half, the hosts enjoyed the greater share of territory with prop Morgan Griffiths and hooker Sam Hudson both carrying strongly. In the 32nd minute Hudson looked certain to cut the deficit when he made a break on half way only to be denied by a fantastic cover tackle by flanker Will Jones.

Pontarddulais continued to press, but the defensive work of lock Daniel Sherman, fly half Sam Cambriani and centre Rhys Edwards was exemplary and the hosts were unable to break their duck.

With 5 minutes remaining, it was Gowerton who grabbed the final score when full back Ryde intercepted a loose pass on half way and sprinted clear to score a try that Max Treharne converted.

At full time the visitors had achieved a win that had been more difficult to achieve than the final score line indicated.

Year 8 back to winning ways.

Pontarddulais yr 8: 5 Gowerton year 8: 24

After last week’s defeat at Penyrheol, Gowerton year 8 were back to winning ways when they travelled to Pontarddulais and emerged as victors in the year 8 game, again the match was closer than the final score suggested.

For the visitors there were good performances from flanker Alex Jones who defended strongly, scrum half Elliott Slocombe whose service was excellent and full back Oliver Bruce whose elusive running earned him the man of the match award.

For the hosts, No.8 Louie Walters carried strongly, fly half Tom Davies kicked well and ran elusively, while scrum half Nathan Beniamus played well under pressure.

Gowerton took the lead in the 8th minute when hooker Ethan Hall gathered a misdirected kick and powered over for a try that fly half Charlie Smith converted. They increased the lead six minutes later when prop Cameron Davies crossed for an unconverted scored.

The hosts reduced the deficit when No.8 Walters scored, but Gowerton ensured victory with further tries from full back Bruce and No.8 Perkins. Bruce converted the second try to leave the visitors comfortable victors.
