Charlie Williams makes a tackle in the game against Hilversum RFC

The year 7 and 8 teams took part in the Cubs festival which saw them in a group with five other teams. The Cubs includes boys who are under 13. In our group we were to play 4 Dutch sides and a German regional side from the Lower Saxony region.

Our first game was against the host club Hilversum. We won 20-0 with Liam Butler (2), Ethan Lee and Elliott Slocombe scoring our tries.

Man of the match was Teigue Williams and there were good performances from Josef Daniel, Jack Griffiths and Sean Garrington.

In the second game we took on Utrecht RFC. Again we triumphed 20-0 with Charlie Smith with a brace, Charlie Williams and Jac Simons all crossing the whitewash. Kobe Bowen and Jacob Rees were joint men of the match and others to impress were the Jones boys-Malin and Rhys, Olly Freeman and Alex Graham-Woollard.

Olly Freeman was our secret lineout weapon against Utrecht.

Our only defeat came against NRV who were the German regional side. We lost 10-5 with John Edwards scoring our try. Charlie Williams was man of the match and others who caught the eye in a tough game were Ethan Hall, Josh Thomas, Rhys Flower, Connor Williams and Olly Bruce.

We responded positively, to defeat Eemland 25-5 in the next game. Try scorers were Matthew Newcombe (2), Gavin Williams, Liam Butler and John Edwards.

Alex Graham-Woollard was man of the match and Adam Williams, Josh Thomas and Mabon Kaniewski all played well.

Our final game against Haag RFC was our most evenly contested game. A try by Daniel Warne gave us the lead at half time, but Haag equalised in the second period. We pressed for a winner and it came with the final move of the game when Ben Petherbridge stretched over. Sam Terry was man of the match and Stuart James and Alex Davies both showed up well.

Tournament over; the lads get in some dancing practice for the post tournament disco.

At the completion of the group the squad had achieved a very creditable second place.
