Eight tries see Gowerton into the Swanseaschools’ cup semi-final.
Gowerton entertained neighbours Gwyr in the quarter final of the Swansea schools’ cup and produced an eight try display that enabled them to gain a convincing 42-0 win and progress confidently to the semi-final.
With the local authority unable to provide the school with a pitch, the hosts were grateful to Waunarlwydd RFC who allowed them the use of their facilities.

Gwyr kicked off, but it was the hosts who settled first and they took the lead in the 2nd minute when centre Jordon Liney breached the defence from a scrum in his own half and showed both pace and strength to cross for the first try.
The visitors enjoyed a spell of pressure in the next ten minutes with fly half Alex Evans probing intelligently and centres Jason Thomas and Mason Williams both running strongly. Gowerton’s defence,  with centre Phil Jones impressing and well marshalled by captain and flanker Will Jones, refused to yield and it was the hosts who increased their lead in the 13th minutes when lock Steffan Gibbon powered over from short range. Gowerton added a third try before half time when they ran back a misdirected defensive kick from the visitors and centre Jones released wing Keelan Giles whose pace took him to the corner from 40 metres.

At the break Gowerton held a comfortable advantage, but the visitors continued to carry a threat with lock Joss Thomas and flanker Daniel Messer both working tirelessly, but Gowerton’s attacks carried more threat with their ability to offload in contact impressive. In the 33rd minute good work by flanker Jones secured possession and excellent handling by wing Callum Lewis allowed him to score in the corner. Full back Tom Howell added a fifth try in the 35thminute after good work by wing Lewis and centre Liney put him clear 40 metres out.
As the visitors tired, Gowerton added three more tries in the final ten minutes. Wing Oliver Smith dived over in the corner after good work by hooker Luke Snell whose appetite for hard work earned him the man of the match award. No.8 Morgan Morris then powered over after good work from scrum half Milo Fleming, who impressed generally with his swift service. Centre Jones added the conversion.

In the final minute an excellent inside pass from wing Brandon Gordon allowed full back Howell to cross for his second try to complete the scoring.
