Update to Parents – 16th April

We hope everyone continues to keep safe and well.

Hopefully pupils and families have been able to enjoy the Easter weekend. We hope that pupils have now settled into a good, balanced daily routine. As we mentioned last week we want to continue with the recommendation of not doing more than 2 hours of work per day. Teachers are setting longer deadlines so pupils can pace themselves in completing the work.

Our headship team is currently looking at a more structured ‘timetable’ for setting work from 27th April. This should enable staff and pupils to have a better understanding of deadlines and not to overload pupils.

From April 20th, we will be extending our EMERGENCY childcare provision to include a broader range of critical sectors.  Please see details on the council website  https://www.swansea.gov.uk/covid19schoolsandcolleges

If you are eligible and wish to apply for emergency childcare then please complete this form.  We will then contact you to confirm your place:

You do not need to complete this form if you are already accessing childcare at Gowerton School

Please continue to encourage pupils to look at the well-being section under remote learning. We update the many fun activities on a weekly basis. This week we have added ‘virtual tours of Zoos’ and RSPB activity sheets. Thanks to those who have taken ‘The Kanga challenge this week’ and submitted photos for our ‘Positivity Photo Gallery’. Photos or artwork for this gallery can been sent at any time during the forthcoming weeks. The gallery is part of the school gallery on the front of the website.

Information on ‘staying safe’, well-being or advice for pupils and parents are also in the remote learning/well-being section.

Exciting news this week, the D&T department has been making safety visors. We have distributed some to local care homes. Last week we also donated all our Science and D&T safety goggles to NHS Swansea. Please don’t worry we will replace these before pupils start back in school.

Some parents have been asking about the Year 9 Options and the Year 12 options. Please do not worry we will be giving further information regarding these Options at the end of May.

Our main message to pupils and families continues to be:

‘Please find the balance between academic work and well-being. We have many weeks ahead of us and we want everyone to keep safe and well’.
