Mixed fortunes for year 8 and 9 at Cwmtawe

Year 9 are the come-back kings.

The year 9 squad that got off to a winning start at Cwmtawe.

Slow start but 8 second half tries earn year 9 an impressive victory.
Gowerton’s year 8 and 9 teams began their season by travelling to Cwmtawe where they were involved in two entertaining and high scoring games. In the year 9 game, Cwmtawe led 24-5 at one point before the visitors replied strongly to win 51-46. Gowerton’s tries were scored by flanker Lloyd Dudley-Jones (3), centres Sam Knight (2), Said Mohammed (2) and Ewan Brown and wing Samer Makahleh.
Fly half Tom Ham kicked two conversions and flanker Corey Brown added a third.
For Gowerton, centre Ewan Brown was awarded the man of the match award and there were also excellent performances from full back Kevin Cheung and debutant prop Aaron Davies.
In reply, Cwmtawe’s try scorers were captain and flanker Zac Beynon (3), No.8 Kyle Rees (2), prop Charlie Milnes, lock Jacob Tate and wing Adam Gates. Fly half Ben Adams added 3 conversions.

The year 8 game followed a similar pattern, but in reverse. Gowerton led 39-22 going into the final quarter, but 3 unanswered tries, the last of which was converted by fly half Matthew Blake, were followed by the final whistle giving the hosts victory 41-39.
For Cwmtawe, scrum half Arwel Thomas, wing Brandon John and fly half Blake all grabbed a brace of tries and centre Joe Lewis also crossed with Blake adding 3 conversions. For the visitors, centre Sean Collins scored 4 tries, whilst co-centre Adam Fielding and scrum half Sam Cambriani also crossed. Cambriani added two conversions as did wing Elliot Rees. Flanker Declan Duckworth’s dynamic display earned him the man of the match award.
