Mixed fortunes for Gowerton’s year 7 and 8 against Olchfa.

Gowerton year 8: 24 Olchfa year 8: 0.

Gowerton year 7: 5 Olchfa year 7: 30.

Gowerton hosted Olchfa in games for year 7 and 8 at Gowerton RFC. Conditions at kick off were perfect for open running rugby and the hosts settled quickly and took the lead in the second minute when centre Alex Graham-Woollard made a break in midfield that took him to the visitors’ 22. From the resulting ruck scrum half Matthew Davies’s long pass freed wing Ethan Lee who crossed in the corner.

The remainder of the half was evenly contested with Gowerton’s hooker Jamie Parry and lock Alex Davies both carrying strongly whilst for Olchfa No.8 Oscar Muxworthy and prop Adam Jones worked hard in the forward exchanges and wing Luke Wells was a constant threat when in possession.

Gowerton’s second try arrived in the early stages of the second period when more good work by man of the match and scrum half Davies released the backs and good handling from fly half Alex Hughes and centre Teigue Williams allowed full back Isaac Clark to score in the corner.

The hosts’ backs looked increasingly dangerous with centre Teigue Williams’s hard running difficult for the visitors to contain. Gowerton stretched their lead when a good run by lock Darragh Cahill allowed centre Williams the chance to power over from 20 metres. Fly half Hughes converted and then added a second conversion after flanker Ryan Stagg showed excellent footwork to jink across for Gowerton’s fourth try and at full time Gowerton had won 24-0.

In the year 7 game, the visitors’ stronger forwards took a stranglehold on the game and won by 30-5. Centre William Thomas scored Gowerton’s try with a good sprint from halfway and there were good performances from fly half Paul Packham and forwards Kian Webb, Ben Cort and Caradog Kaniewsky.
