Gowerton travelled to the Neath Valley to play Llangatwg. Although they had lost 27-12 to Olchfa the previous week there had been lots of encouraging signs and the squad were confident of achieving their first win. That confidence was not misplaced and the team achieved victory as a result of scoring five unanswered tries.

In the early stages it was the hosts who held the upper hand and Gowerton’s defence was fully tested. Flanker Josh Thomas, No.8 Jack Griffiths, wing Tim Perkins and full back Kori Barton all made telling tackles and the visitors were able to repel Llangatwg’s attacks.

Gowerton gradually began to take control of the game with fly half and captain Joel Matuschke marshalling his backs intelligently while the front row of Connor Williams, Rhys Flower and Luc Jones were all powerful ball carriers. In the 13th minute, Gowerton opened the scoring when scrum half Jac Simons powered over from short range for a try that fly half Matuschke converted. Gowerton doubled their lead 5 minutes later when the silky running of centre Matthew Newcombe saw him evade three defenders to score a try that Charlie Smith converted. At half time Gowerton led 14-0.

In the second half, Gowerton, buoyed by the confidence gained from their first half performance continued to be on the front foot and flanker Rhys Jones crossed in the 29thminute after good work from centre Ben Petherbridge. Matuschke converted. With prop John Edwards and man of the match, flanker Alex Jones both running strongly Gowerton continued to dominate and they added two further tries in the final quarter. First centre Newcombe grabbed a second following good work from lock James Rees and then No.8 Tim Perkins completed the scoring when he chased his own kick ahead on halfway and re-gathered to score a fine individual try. Matuschke and Smith added a conversion each and at the final whistle Gowerton were deserving winners.
