GOWERTONIAN SOCIETY ANNUAL DINNER 2019

For the past two years, the Gowertonian Society has held their annual dinner at Gowerton School in the Main Hall. The event, held at the school and catered for by The Towers Hotel, has proved to be a very enjoyable evening by all members of the society and staff of the school.

The aim of the Gowertonian Society is to support the school in all aspects of school life. They endeavour to help financially with awards for academic, sporting and musical achievement, sponsoring students for extra-curricular activities as well as enhancing the school environment.

This year we were honoured to be joined by Dr Paul Simons, a Gowertonian, who attended the dinner after travelling all the way from Australia.

Dr Simons has lived an exemplary life of ships, shops and sheep.

He has sailed the seven seas, climbed to the very top of the corporate ladder and now runs two sheep properties on the Southern Tablelands and Hilltop regions in Australia – all managed with the steady resolve to do it once and do it right.

It’s even more impressive when you realise Paul is over 90 and is arguably the oldest fine wool grower in Australia.

When Paul attended Gowerton Boys Grammar School, he lived at Llanmadoc, having been evacuated from Dover. Then later while still at Gowerton, he returned to the family home in Caswell.

Furthermore to the excitement of the visit of Dr Simons, he then proceeded to offer the Head Boy, Aidan Stannard, and Head Girl, Heather Wheel, the opportunity to travel out to Australia (fully funded by Dr Simons) for 6 months to gain invaluable work experience on one of his sheep farms! A fantastic opportunity!

An enjoyable night was had by all, and further photographs can be found by following the link below:
