Gowerton broke new ground when they hosted Chilean visitors St. John’s from Concepcion in Chile. Rugby is a rapidly growing sport in The South American country and is played to a high standard by the English medium private schools and St. John’shad travelled on their U.K.tour with high hopes.
The game proved a tough encounter and was keenly contested between the two sides and in the end surprisingly, it was the visitors’ mastery of rugby skills that deservedly earned them victory.

At kick off Gowerton held the early advantage and full back Sam Evans gave them the lead with a fourth minute penalty.
However, from then the visitors took over and their skilful and pacey backs crossed for three tries, two of which were converted.
Gowerton continued to show plenty of endeavour and they were rewarded 10 minutes from time when hooker Rhys Cherry drove over from close range.
At the end of the match the teams congratulate each other on their efforts.
Post match, both the netball and rugby squads enjoyed a buffet supplied by Gowerton’s parents.
The post match buffet was well received by the Chilean girls.
Miss Rushworth and Miss McCoubrey who set the buffet up and Mr. Walters who helped to eat it!
