Commanding: Lock Will Jones wins clean lineout possession.
After wins over Cwmtawe and Olchfa, Gowerton’s yr 9 team travelled to Birchgrove for their third Welsh schools cup group game.
Playing with the wind at their backs the hosts were quickly out of the blocks and took the lead in the 8thminute when centre Kieran Beresford powered through several tackles to score a try that scrum half Lewis Pritchard converted.
The visitors slowly began to come to terms with the wind and with scrum half and captain Sam Cambriani dictating play intelligently they cut the deficit when a fine run from centre Sean Collins created the space for co-centre Adam Fielding to cross. On the stroke of half time the visitors were in front when lock Will Jones, who commanded the lineouts throughout, stole one on the Birchgrove 5 metre line and after more good work from scrum half Cambriani, flanker Jack Soproniuk scored in the corner.

Support: No.8 Adam Gammon has scrum half Sam Cambriani on his shoulder.
In the second half, with the elements in their favour, Gowerton took control and added five further tries. In the 30th minute good work by centre Collins and lock Jones allowed wing Rhys Edwards to cross out wide. Full back Elliott Rees added an excellent conversion.

Good work: Centre Sean Collins created the first try of the second half.
Two minutes later, quick thinking by scrum half Cambriani allowed lock Rhys Penry to cross. Full back Rees again added the extras. An excellent 60 metre break by centre Fielding set up a position close to the Birchgrove and hooker Aled Simons powered over for a try that was again converted by Rees. Flanker Joe Brightkey then scored twice, the first score followed good work by lock Jones and the second came after a strong run from No.8 Adam Gammon.
The hosts finished strongly and deservedly grabbed a second try when centre Beresford showed his pace as well as his strength to complete the scoring.

Gowerton are now joint top of the group with Ystalyfera and face a tough encounter when they entertain them at Waunarlwydd RFC on Tuesday at 3.30pm in a game that will determine the group winners.
