Gowerton old boys help kit out school’s sports teams for international tour
Pupils from GowertonSchool in Swanseaare heading off on a major rugby, hockey and netball tour to Hong Kong and Australia next month.  The 15-18 year-olds are all excited at what promises to be the experience of a lifetime, but the school faced a problem – the 46 pupils need school branded tracksuits for the sporting events. Unfortunately Gowerton School didn’t have the budget to pay for them, but Eteach, the UK’s leading online school recruitment service, has now come forward with sponsorship.
Today Rod Bowen, a Gowerton old boy who works for Eteach, visited the school to hand over a cheque for £2,000.  As soon as he heard about the tracksuit problem, Rod wanted Eteach to sponsor them: “It’s crucial that the teams look the part in a major tour like this,” he said, “and so when I heard that the school couldn’t buy tracksuits was keen for Eteach to help. What’s more, we’re increasingly working with international schools and so supporting a tour like this ties in with our global business outlook. We’re all proud to be involved and wish the youngsters every success in the tour.” Eteach founder Paul Howells is equally enthusiastic about supporting the teams – he too is a Gowerton old boy!
Headteacher Peter Harrison said:”We’re all excited about this tour and are confident that our senior sports teams will have an unforgettable experience. It’s great that they’re now being kitted out with some extremely smart tracksuits and I’m grateful to Eteach for their generosity.”
The teams, accompanied by six members of staff, will spend the first three days in Hong Kong before flying to Sydney. The three week tour will offer the students an action-packed mixture of competing against local schools and sightseeing, including jetboating in Sydney, visiting Australia Zoo in Brisbane and the Great Barrier
Reef, and white water rafting in Cairns. They will be staying in hotels and with host families.
