Fresh from success at the Bishopston 7s tournament, the squad travelled to north London for the QueenElizabeth School, Barnet 7s. The tournament is one of the biggest in the U.K for under 14 teams and included many of the teams who had taken part in the National Schools’ sevens for under 13 teams at Rosslyn Park the previous year.
Gowerton’s group games were against The Trinity School who had reached the last eight at Rosslyn Park, Coopers and Coburn who had reached the last 32 and Reigate Grammar School.
In their group they defeated Trinity 42-5, Coopers and Coburn 57-0 and Reigate 38-0.
As group winners they took their place in the quarter-finals where they played St. Paul’s and repeated the score of their game against Reigate (38-0), in the semi-final they defeated Bedford Modern 15-0. Bedford were another team who had reached the quarter finals at Rosslyn Park. But they saved the best for the final where they played the winners of the Rosslyn Park tournament, London Oratory and triumphed with a convincing 43-0 scoreline.
