Year 9 repeat the success of the class of ’88.
Year 9 travelled to the 22ndannual Bishopston School 7s with their recent 15-a-side form meaning that they were in confident mood. Gowerton’s only previous success had been at the inaugural tournament in 1988. However, with schools from the Cardiff area having won the previous eight tournaments, Gowerton knew that they faced a tough challenge if they were to emerge with the silverware.

Gowerton scored seven unanswered tries to win their first game. Tries were scored by Keelan Giles (3), Will Jones, Steffan Tyrrell, Rhys Evans and Tom Howell. Tom also kicked three conversions.

Gowerton: 36 Ysgol Cwm Rhymni: 0
Gowerton clinched the group when they scored six tries to win their second game. Tries were scored by Keelan Giles (2), Phil Jones, Morgan Morris, Milo Fleming and Tom Howell. Phil added two conversions and Tom also kicked one.

Gowerton: 40 Cowbridge: 7
Having qualified for the quarter-finals as group winners, Gowerton were drawn to play against Cowbridge. Cowbridge had won the last competition in 2010 and had also got to the semi-final of the Rosslyn Park Sevens last year. However, they were no match for the confident Gowerton side. Captain Will Jones and Jordon Liney both grabbed a brace of tries, Tom Howell scored a try and added 3 conversions and Phil Jones also scored a try and kicked 2 conversions.

Gowerton: 28 Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf: 7
In the semi-final, Gowerton were paired with Cardiffschool, Glantaf and triumphed by virtue of a try hat-trick from player of the tournament Keelan Giles. Phil Jones added a fourth try and three conversions whilst Tom Howell also kicked a conversion.

Gowerton: 31 Ysgol Bro Morgannwg: 5
In the final, the opponents were Ysgol Bro Morgannwg from Barry, but again Gowerton possessed more power and pace than their opponents. In the first half Gowerton crossed for tries that were scored by Phil Jones, Morgan Morris and Keelan Giles. Tom Howell converted two and Phil Jones converted the third.
In the second half, Bro Morgannwg got on the scoresheet with a try of their own, but Gowerton stretched away with tries by Tom Howell and Jordon Liney and at the final whistle they were comfortable and deserving tournament winners.
