Year 9 power to nine try success against Dublinvisitors’
Gowerton stepped in at the last minute to host Irish tourists’ CastleknockCollege from Dublin. The visitors had had their game against opponents from Cardiffcancelled but thanks to the support of Penclawdd RFC, the school was able to ensure they didn’t travel back without having played a game.
The hosts, buoyed by their cup victory against Treorchy started strongly scoring 5 tries inside the first 15 minutes. They took the lead in the 4th minute when scrum half Milo Fleming broke through after taking a tapped penalty quickly and No. 8 Jack Cambriani was in support to score. From the kick off, good work from flanker Will Jones gave full back Tom Howell the space to sprint clear for a try he converted himself.

Then in the 9thminute good work by Cambriani and Fleming gave fly half Jesse Howes the space to score. Two minutes later, a Howell break allowed Cambriani to grab his second try and then it was his pass that allowed captain Will Jones to score, Howell and centre Phil Jones both added a conversion.
By half time, tries by wing Jordan Marshall after good work by flanker Ben Roberts and Cambriani’s third meant that at the break Gowerton’s lead was a more than healthy 41-0.

Gowerton found it hard to reassert their authority despite the fact that man of the match, centre Rhys Evans, was having an impressive game both as a ball carrier and a defender. However, it was the hosts who finished the stronger and in the last 10 minutes Howell added his second try after good approach work by prop Jordon Liney and then Liney himself completed the scoring after good work by lock Steffan Gibbon and flanker Steffan Tyrrell. Howell added the conversion to leave Gowerton as comfortable winners, but the visitors were able to travel home reassured by the fact that their second half performance had left a good impression on their hosts.
