Gowerton started the game at a ferocious pace and it wasn’t long before they scored their first try with Kieran Charles scoring in the first minute. This was largely down to the strong running of Sam Knight, Lloyd Dudley-Jones and Will Griffiths. Tom Ham switched to scrum half for the game which proved to be successful – his crisp service to Sam Cambriani at ten allowed the back line to enjoy lots of space and time.

In the early forward exchanges Callum Batcup and Lukas Kelly were prominent making some strong tackles and their physical presence felt. Other impressive performances in the pack came from the front row – Morgan Evans and Lewis Cooke both very strong at scrum time – which allowed Ben Brown to provide quality scrum ball. Hooker Brown was also extremely accurate with his lineout throws that again provided quality possession.
Centre Kieran Charles scored a try and kicked 4 conversions.
The first half proved to be a try feast with six being scored in total. Centre Sam Knight crossed twice, whilst full back Jordan Penhalagon, fly half Sam Cambriani, No.8 Lloyd Dudley-Jones added to Charles’ early score. Charles added 4 conversions taking the score to lead 38 points after twenty minutes. This resulted in squad rotation. The whole backline was changed and although this initially caused some confusion the playing performance was still of a high standard. Brandon Job and Lewis Gibson played at nine – both giving an excellent service for outside half Chris Hughes who looked more than comfortable in the role. At half time with Gowerton comfortably in the lead all players were given the opportunity to perform and stake their claim for a squad place for the important Morriston game in the following week.
Many of the players stepped up to the plate – Jamie Jones in particular stood out with some excellent defensive work. Other pleasing performances came from Daniel Rogers, Callum Evans and Said Mohammed. Pontarddulais came back into the game with 5 tries of their own before scrum half Tom Ham crossed late on to guarantee the well deserved victory.
It was also evident that DISCIPLINEhas improved, this must continue to improve, and is a key factor for selection – those players offering the highest level of discipline being better placed to gain selection in a very competitive squad come the big games.
The squad is progressing nicely and have two big challenges in the next week. Firstly their Welsh Cup game against Morriston on Tuesday at Gowerton RFC which is a must win game. Followed by a trial game:

This game will provide all players with an opportunity to show Captain – Will Griffiths, Vice Captain Tom Ham and the coaching team their ability and will hopefully provide a good spectacle for rugby lovers.
