After the half term break years 7 and 8 got their season restarted with a ‘friendly’ match between the two sides at the Elba. The game was a very competitive affair at the end of which a draw was a fair result with both sides crossing for four tries.
Year 8 opened the scoring in the 5thminute when fly half Kieron Charles burst over and added the conversion himself. However, their younger opponents were level two minutes later when centre Sean Collins showed first great strength to power through the defensive line on half way and then impressive pace to sprint to score a try converted by captain and scrum half Sam Cambriani.

In the 11th minute a second Charles try re-established the year 8 lead and two minutes a strong run by centre Sam Knight took him 50 metres to score a try that Charles converted to stretch year 8’s lead to 12 points. Year 7 were beginning to take charge up front, and they were rewarded with tries in the 16th minute when prop Jack Harper powered over from short range and then on the stroke of half time fly half Elliot Rees crossed and Cambriani’s conversion left the scores tied at the break.
The second half was a tighter affair with defences on top, but year 7 took the lead in the 35th minute when Harper powered over for his second try. Year 8 were not to be denied and another Knight run from half way allowed him to score in the 44thminute to tie the scores again.
In the final few minutes, both sides pressed for the winning score, but neither could achieve one and at full time honours were even. The game was good preparation for next week’s games against Olchfa.
