Honours even at Dwr y Felin.
Gowerton’s year 7 and 9 rugby teams travelled to Dwr Y Felin and in two keenly contested games both schools achieved a win.

In the year 9 fixture, the hosts powerful forwards dominated the first quarter with lock Sam Michael and No.8 Adam Thomas both strong ball carriers. Initially, Gowerton denied their thrusts with an outstanding defensive effort with centre James Northey and flanker Lewis Grove both unflinching. Inevitably, the hosts pressure was rewarded and lock Connor Doyle powered over in the 18th minute.

Gradually the visitors started to assert themselves, with outstanding scrum half Iwan Jones gaining them territory with his kicking from the base of the forward exchanges and they equalised on the stroke of half time when hard working lock and man of the match Will Griffiths scored in the corner.
Buoyed by the confidence of their score the visitors gained the upper hand in the second period. Flanker Leon Bevan dominated the breakdown and with a more regular supply of possession fly half Cameron Clayfield and centre Alex Crawford were a constant threat with their strong and elusive running.

The visitors took the lead in the 45th minute when good work by flanker Grove, centre Crawford and No.8 Lewis Pennington gave fly half Cameron the opportunity to sprint to the corner. Then 9 minutes later they doubled their lead when scrum half Jones darted around the blind side of a 5 metre scrum to score in the corner.
In the final minutes, Dwr Y Felin searched for a score and were rewarded when fly half Jack Evans’s accurate pass released wing Ki Morgan on halfway and he set off on an excellent touch line run that saw him evade several would be tacklers to score in the corner. The final whistle followed and Gowerton were narrow but deserving victors.

Dwr y Felin year 7: 27 Gowerton year 7: 19.
The year 7 game saw the hosts emerge with a victory 27-19. The game was a story of two very different halves. The hosts dominated the first period with full back Kellan Matthews impressing with ball in hand and they scored three tries to lead 17-0 at the break. In the second half Gowerton had the better of the play with lock Owen Parry carrying strongly and earning the man of the match award.
Dwr y Felin’s tries were scored by wings James Gorman (2), Harry Daniels-Sutton, No.8 Josh Burns and hooker Korey Ball. Gowerton replied with tries from centre Teigue Williams, flanker Liam Butler and fly half Sam Cartwright who added two conversions.
Next week Gowerton play neighbours Gwyr at years 7, 8, 9 and 10.
