Gowerton move into the semi-final.

Gowerton’s year 11 team produced a confident performance against neighbours Gwyr that saw them score eight unanswered tries and in the process progress into the semi-final of the Swansea schools’ cup competition with a 54-0 win.
The hosts arrived at the game buoyed by the news that 7 members of the team had been selected for the Welsh schools’ under 16 squad and as a result they were strong favourites. Gwyr were also hampered by having 3 key players out injured. However, despite the score, Gwyr provided more than a stern test and the final score did little justice to the spirit and commitment that they displayed throughout.
Gowerton took the lead in the 7th minute when a strong run by flanker Jack Cambriani took him deep into the visitors 22. When the ball was moved wide, centre Steffan Tyrrell created the space for co-centre Tom Howell to score in the corner. Howell added the extras with an excellent kick from the touchline. The hosts extended their lead in the 12thminute when another strong run from Cambriani set up an attack wing Oliver Smith entered the line and committed the cover to put wing Jordan Marshall over. Howell again converted.
The next two scores came as a result of intelligent kicks behind the onrushing defence. In the 16th minute fly half Jones spotted the space for centre Tyrrell to race into and gather and score. Then in the 24th minute, centre Howell kicked to the corner and fullback Giles scored. Howell added both conversions and Gowerton led 28-0 at the break.
The second half, followed a similar pattern with Gwyr defending stoically with second row Joss Thomas, flankers Daniel Messer and Dewi Kalsi and outside half Cellan Eynon all impressing with their defensive efforts and Gowerton producing a skilled performance that saw them posing a threat whenever they were in possession. Full back Giles crossed out wide in the 32nd minute after impressive inter passing with prop Tom Northey, No.8 Morgan Morris and flanker and captain Will Jones all prominent. Centre Howell maintained his impressive form with the boot, again converting from the touchline. In the 37th minute a well executed backs move saw fly half Phil Jones loop around and slice through the defence to score and then two minutes later an excellent long pass by scrum half Callum Lewis put full back Giles clear to complete his hat trick. Full back Howell again added both conversions.
In the final minute, Gowerton scored their eighth try when man of the match wing Marshall scooted through a gap to score his second try and that score was followed by the final whistle.
