Yesterday, 6 pupils from our school competed in the ‘Battle of the Bots’ Technocamps annual competition.
Pupils from 23 teams went head-to-head in the 2023 RAF Robotics competition grand finals in North and South Wales. This year’s theme was GREEN MACHINES, and pupils were challenged to design and create a robot that could tackle climate change.
The pupils created display boards, robot prototypes and had to pitch their solution to the judges which included members of the RAF and Sir Kevin Johns. During the afternoon, the pupils were then set a live challenge to code their robot to complete as many challenges as possible in three and a half minutes.
Judges said, “The standards this year was incredibly high, making our job as judges quite tricky. There were some ides that could truly make a difference to climate change issues, we were certainly in the presence of future leaders today!”
Our pupils created ‘Envriobot’. It drives around picking up all the rubbish that it goes over and gathers it in the holding system. It then takes sends it down the conveyor belt and the and then filters it into different recycling groups through coding. It will then deposit the rubbish into correct bins for recycling.
We are so happy to announce that our pupils were the overall WINNERS for South Wales! They have worked extremely hard for months towards this event. They have problem solved, worked as a team, coded, designed and created an amazing invention. A massive well done to them all. They have done themselves, the School and Miss Roberts very proud!
