Arsenal football club hosted the final of a nationwide language competition for schoolchildren at Emirates Stadium on Friday 10th June, to celebrate Euro 2016.
Over 160 finalists from 30 secondary schools were competing to come up with a new learning resource for the Arsenal Double Club languages programme, which uses football as a way to engage young people with learning a new language.
The ideas were tested by local primary school children from Sacred Heart & Holy Trinity, before a winner was selected.
Gowerton School from Wales had an impressive 5 groups in the final and their group 4 took first place with ‘Aaron Ramsey’s Uno’ – a card game that combines learning French with Welsh. It will be published and used in Arsenal Double Clubs next season.
During a busy day at Emirates Stadium, students also had the chance to take a tour of the ground and hear from Arsenal staff who use second languages in their work.
