Important information in response to the Circuit Breaker Lockdown announcement
The Welsh Government announced at lunchtime today that there will be a National Lockdown from Friday 23rd October at 6pm until Monday 9th November.
Gowerton School will be open to Year 7 & 8 from Monday November 2nd but closed to Years 9,10,11, 12 & 13. These pupils will be expected to continue their learning from home. The situation may be subject to change depending on further guidance due by the end of this week. Please check our website and social media outlets for any updates.
Teaching and Learning
As a school we have prepared our pupils for working from home. All should be able to access Microsoft Teams, know their passwords and know how to see their classwork.
From November 2nd – 6th, Years 9 – 13 are expected to follow their normal timetable from home. Staff will be placing work in a variety of ways, known as Blended Learning. Lessons could be ‘live streamed’, PowerPoint, recorded or linked to written work, whichever way the member of staff chooses to set the work we can assure you there will be work set as of the timetable.
If you have or envisage any IT issues please could you contact the school on 873461
Hwb is accessible via a range of devices with built in web browsers. Phones, tablets and even games consoles will allow you to access schoolwork set via Microsoft Teams. You will also have access to and be able to work on all your files stored on Hwb. We realise that not every child will have access to a device to complete the work set by teachers. In this situation, we would be willing to lend a Chromebook to pupils in need. We will also be able to provide a USB keyboard for those pupils with games consoles who wish to use them to access the work being set.
School Transport:
School transport (including DJ Thomas buses) will operate as normal for all pupils in Years 7 & 8.
Free School Meals information:
Pupils that are eligible for Free School Meals and who previously received a BACs payment will receive this again for period 26th Oct to 6th Nov. New applicants for free school meals will have a food bag delivered for the same period. Both of these are organised directly by County.
