After impressing in their first outing away to Bryntawe, year 7 entertained Dylan Thomas at the Elbain their first home game. Following victory at Bryntawe the squad were in confident mood at kick off and their performance fully justified their mood as they crossed for eight tries against gallant visitors, for whom, many of their squad were playing rugby for the first time.

For Gowerton, there were good performances at forward from Jack Harper, Ollie Quick, Ieuan Burgess and Jack Sopruniuk. Whilst the best forward award went to Joe Brivey. Behind the scrum Patrick Langdon-Dark and Max Treharne both caught the eye but it was Ioan Thomas who won the best back award.

Gowerton took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when scrum half and captain Sam Cambriani broke from a ruck 30 metres out and crossed for a try that went unconverted. Four minutes later wing Sean Collins who had scored a hat trick in the game at Bryntawe, again showed his paces when he sprinted away from the cover 40 metres out and crossed for a try that doubled Gowerton’s lead.
In the 11th minute, the hosts increased their lead with a third try. Jack Harper surged powerfully into the visitors’ defence and vice captain Dexter Ryde was on hand to score a try that captain Cambriani converted.
Before half time, Gowerton added three further tries. In the 16th minute, at a visitors scrum in their own ’22, Cambriani robbed his opposite number and crossed for his second try. Two minutes later pacey Elliot Rees crossed and then on the stroke of half time, a burst down the left wing by Adam Fielding allowed him to score Gowerton’s sixth try. Ioan Thomas added conversions for the last two tries that left the hosts with a lead of 36-0 at the break.

In the second half, Gowerton continued to press, but the visitors defended with great character and the hosts were only able to add two further tries. In the 35th minute good work by Oliver Clark gave Rhys Baker the space to cross for a try that was converted by Ioan Thomas. Then with the final move of the game a powerful run by Clarkallowed him to score and Thomas’ conversion brought up 50 points.
Next week the squad travel to Pontarddulais on Thursday where they can expect a tough challenge.
