Gowerton Year 11’s scored a last minute winner to get their season off to a victorious start away at Penyrheol.
Gowerton took the lead half way through the first half with a cool headed finish from Cian Rees. It was a resolute first half performance with Gowerton creating numerous chances without managing to double their lead before half time.
Their lead and dominance counted for nothing after a slow start to the 2nd half. A cheap corner was penalised with a sublime finish which gave Penyrheol a high quality equaliser.
The equaliser seemed to catch Gowerton off guard, after total dominance in the first half their slow start and conceding the equalizing goal really turned the game on its head.
In the space of 10 second half minutes Gowerton had managed to concede two goals and a penalty which was dispatched perfectly leaving them trailing 3-1 with just 20 minutes left.
The game turned scrappy but worked to the away sides advantage, Cian Rees once again reacted quickest to half Gowerton’s deficit.
Gowerton’s 2nd seemed to ignite their belief again as they began to assert their dominance on the game. Chance after chance was going begging through gutsy defending by the home side before Cian Rees got his hatrick with just 3 minutes left on the clock, completing the away sides comeback to 3-3!
Not content with a draw, Gowerton pushed for a winner which eventually came through a razor quick counter attack which began in their own half. Morgan Couch and Kieran Bevan setting up the man of the hour, Cian Rees to fire home his fourth of the game, and Gowerton’s deserved winner with less than a minute on the clock.
A hard fought victory in a performance that had everything.
