Gowerton enjoy mixed fortunes at Olchfa.
Gowerton School’s year 7 and year 10 teams travelled to Olchfa to play friendly fixtures and returned home with honours even with both school’s enjoying a win apiece.
Olchfa year 7: 17 Gowerton year 7: 34.
With the spring sunshine providing ideal conditions for running rugby the two sides didn’t disappoint producing an entertaining fixture that saw the two teams crossing the whitewash on nine occasions.
The visitors crossed for six of them and their victory was based upon the efficient work of their forwards with prop Harvey Marshall carrying strongly and hooker Nathan Gardiner and No.8 James Wells efficient in the contact area which guaranteed their team a supply of good quick ball.
Behind the scrum, Ben Hughes’s excellent service allowed fly half Iwan Pearce-Morgan to orchestrate play well. Full back Cameron Bevan produced a polished counter attacking performance that saw him making inroads into Olchfa’s territory every time he was in possession.
The visitors’ tries came from elusive centre Ethan Davies (2), his centre partner Tyler Davies whose strong running posed a constant threat, fly half Pearce-Morgan and wings Reuben de Vall and man of the match Daniel Chung who was playing his first game and capped an excellent performance by impressively sprinting clear from half way to score.
Olchfa contributed significantly to the match and their stand out performer was fly half Jack Hoskins who organised his team well and set up all three of his sides tries which were scored by Alex Phillips (2) and Arron Zhou.
The best of those scores came when fly half Hoskins’ intelligent cross field kick was so accurate all that was required was for it to be touched down in in-goal.

Again the sunshine led to a fine game of attacking rugby that was in the balance right until the final whistle.
The hosts came out on top by scoring the odd try of the seven in total and that score came with two minutes left on the watch denying the visitors their first victory over Olchfa since they first opposed each other three years ago.
The visitors were well served at forward by No.8 Alfie Woodcock who carried strongly and lock Kian Webb who organised the forwards intelligently.
Behind the scrum, fly half Paul Packham managed the game impressively while centres Will Thomas and Joe Hawkins-Cole both ran elusively and were a constant threat when in possession.
Gowerton’s tries were scored by centre Hawkins-Cole, flanker Caradog Kaniewski and fly half Packham who also added two conversions.
However, the hosts’ late score ensured they deservedly came out on top by virtue of the fact that they’d scored four tries to three.
