Gower College made the short journey to take Gowerton on in a senior hockey fixture at Elba.
The game proved to be an exciting affair in which the College came out on top 5-3.
The College took an early lead after some powerful midfield play by Niamh Silvey saw her drive into the D and aided by a deflection the ball ended up in the back of Gowerton’s goal.
Despite this early set back, Gowerton didn’t allow their heads to drop and played a positive style of hockey with Freya Evans and Seren Howells both impressing with their accurate passing.
The introduction of replacement Cameron Clayfield brought some pace up front and when an incisive pass from Sam Terry put Clayfield through on goal he burst into the D and smashed a shot past the College goal minder and at the break the scores were tied 1-1.
Gowerton started the second period on the front foot and took control of the game when two more goals from the stick of Clayfield saw the hosts leading 3-1.
However, the visitors refused to roll over and pressing forward relentlessly scored four goals with Freya Fleming completing her own hat trick.
At full time, College triumped 5-3, but the hosts can take heart from their periods of dominance against an experienced GCS team.
Report: Iwan Jnoes and Cameron Clayfield.
