All Saints match reports (U18 rugby still to come)

All Saints under 16s: 15 Gowerton under 16s: 26

Gowerton started the stronger of the teams with Owen Parry setting the tone with a crunching first tackle. The first score came within five minutes after some strong running from Caradog Kaniewski, Ben Cort and Ryan stagg that lead to a try for Will Thomas, the conversion was added by Gavin Williams.

From the Kick off Alfie woodcock took an excellent catch that impressed all, this kept Gowerton in the right area of the field as Matthew Davies was given time to place his clearing kick.
The game swayed towards All Saints as they became more physical – a penalty at the breakdown for the Saints led to their try after several phases play their wing went over in the corner, the conversion was missed and the visitors lead was 7-5.

The Strong running continued with Gavin Williams complementing this with some mazy running.
This allowed Gowerton to remain in a strong territorial position leading to their second try after a strong defensive push forced an error, Will Thomas benefited and went over for his second try, Gavin once adding the extras.

Injury struck Alfie Woodcock and Peter Cort, our enthusiastic first aid support elected to remove him from the field of play – Raffi Richards sprung into action. Gowerton’s third try was much similar after impressive defence this time Caradog benefited via an interception and cantered over from forty metres. Gavin Completed a hat trick of conversions to make the score 21-5 at half-time.

Gowerton made 9 changes at the half to ensure all players had game time but despite those changes continued in the same vein. Matthew Davies co-ordinating things exceptionally well at fly half. The first try of the second half was a sweet backs move that saw Ioan Thomas brought back inside and able to swerve his way through the forwards to touch down, the conversion was missed.

Play was much more competitive in the second period with most play exchanged in the middle third. All Saints fought back strongly during this time and despite some strong defence went over twice before the end of play. The Gowerton resolve was epitomised by replacement Kian Webb when thrown a loose ball he gathered at a stretch and ‘boshed’ his opponent to the ground.
Forward of the match Vikran Sanghera for his exceptional lineout throwing and play in the loose.
Back of the match was Matthew Davies for his excellent game management from outside half.

All Saints netball: 40 Gowerton netball: 7

Today was match number 2 for the netball girls against All Saints High School.

Unfortunately it was a 40-7 loss however I think we can all agree that we played extremely well, considering we all moved around and played different positions that we hadn’t played before. Unfortunately, we ended up with 2 injuries; one resulting in our captain going to hospital. However, Casey has still said that our teamwork is getting stronger and we are getting stronger as a team. I think that even though they turned out to be a better netball team than us, our sportsmanship was a lot better than theirs which is what counts.

Hear hear!

Hockey – All Saints: 4 Gowerton: 2

We were set back from the start as the girls had never played on a grass pitch. A few early goals from the opposition saw us lose the first half 3-0 (which seems to be a running theme). However as the game progressed the quality of our play grew stronger for the Gowerton side and we played the best hockey I’ve seen us play. Impressive Individual skills from Seren Howells and fern Evans saw Gowerton have most of the possession and attacking In The all saints half. Our midfielder Freya Evans gained a good angle to the goal and lifted the ball into the back of the net taking the score to 4-1. Soon after, Olivia gibbon hit the ball clean into the goal from the top of the D. With some more impressive attacking play but nothing to show for it with a few missed opportunities, the game ended 4-2.
