Hockey, netball and rugby teams do well in Brecon.
Hockey: Christ College, Brecon: 3 Gowerton: 3.
The hockey match between the two sides was extremely competitive and ebbed and flowed throughout with both teams enjoying periods when they were in the ascendancy. Gowerton were first to press and took the lead in the 10thminute when Hannah Breeze-Jones netted after good work from Rachel Walsh. Christ Collegepossessed the player of the match in inside left Bella Fisher and she scored from close range to tie the scores.
Back came the visitors and good work from Ashleigh Moore gave Hannah Williams the chance to regain the lead and she finished coolly to give Gowerton a 2-1 half time advantage.

The hosts started the second half strongly and in the centre of Gowerton’s defence, Alycia Carpanini had to be at her best to halt several of their attacks. When Christ College did break through, debutant goalkeeper Maddie Lazarus made a number of fine saves, however, an equaliser seemed inevitable and it duly arrived when Rhiannon Phillips scored. The hosts were now very much on top and took the lead for the first time with 15 minutes to go with a neat finish by Lucy Dale.
Gowerton replied in determined fashion with Kira Button prompting well from midfield and with 5 minutes left a fine run by Gowerton’s player of the match Hannah Breeze-Jones gave Georgia Davies the opportunity to equalise and she duly did so.
In the final minutes both teams had the opportunity to score a winner, but perhaps fittingly, in such a keenly contested game, at the final whistle the game ended ‘honours even’.

In the netball game, Gowerton were always on top against a young Christ Collegeside. For Gowerton, there were good performances from Katie Davies, Sam Alexander, Ailsa Howells, Hannah Griffiths, Gemma Evans and Bethan Rees. Katie Davies earned the player of the match award for the visitors whilst Christ College’s centre Natalia Fisher earned the award for the hosts.

Rugby: Christ College,Brecon: 0 Gowerton: 20.
The two schools played an under 16 rugby match which Gowerton won by virtue of scoring four unanswered tries. Gowerton took the lead in the 10th minute when centre Anthony Osborne dived over after wing Jordan Marshall won a turnover. Three minutes later scrum half Leighton Lamb increased the lead when Gowerton attacked down the blindside of a scrum and good work from fly half Nathan Williams and wing Lewis Brooks gave Lamb the room to cross for the second try.
Christ College dominated territory for the rest of the half and threatened on a number of occasions with centres Iain Mitchell and Alex Bush both powerful ball carriers and flanker and captain Luke Henderson impressing at the contact area. That the hosts were unable to get onto the scoreboard was down to the excellent defensive work of full back Rhodri Tyrrell, centre Lewis Macdermott and flanker Scott Smith.

After weathering the storm at the end of the first half, the visitors reasserted their authority in the second period and stretched their lead thanks to tries from No.8 Ethan Harris who powered over from a lineout 5 metres out and then hooker Marcus Besley completed the scoring when he finished off after good work from man of the match Lamb.
